Learn the Similarities and Differences Between the 2019 Subaru Forester and Ascent

At Subaru Superstore, being able to discover all the quality vehicles that we have in our showroom and how they appeal to your lifestyle is just one of the many exciting reasons to stop in and check out our selection. One recent question we've been fielding quite a bit is about the Subaru Ascent. It's a new vehicle to our lineup, and plenty of people want to know, what are the differences between the 2019 Subaru Ascent, and a fellow SUV, the 2019 Subaru Forester.

Size and Interior Versatility

For starters, the 2019 Ascent is a bigger vehicle. It is a seven-passenger SUV with three rows of seating, while the 2019 Forester is a five-passenger vehicle. That means if you're someone who is going to need passenger space for more than five people the Ascent is a good choice, but if you have fewer than that regularly, the Forester might be the option for you.

With both, there's ample cargo space, as the Subaru Ascent provides 17.8 cubic feet of cargo space in the cargo area when all rows of seating are folded up, 47.5 cubic feet when you fold down the 3rd row, and 86.5 cubic feet when you fold down all the rear seats, giving you the versatility you need in any situation. The 2019 Forester, you'll still find ample room as it has 35.4 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and up to 76.1 cubic feet when you fold those seats down, with a total of 111.9 cubic feet of cargo volume. For each one you can get items big and small onboard, while everyone is comfortable with enough legroom and space to spread out.

Performance

As is the case will all Subaru vehicles, you're going to find BOXER® engines onboard, plus 8.7-inches of ground clearance and the 2019 Ascent and Forester are no different. This provides each vehicle with a smooth and efficient ride, plus higher levels of capability in many conditions, too. Of course, each of their engines are different in size and power, but both remain quality solutions to your drive.

With the 2019 Forester, you'll have a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder that provides 182 horsepower along with 26 miles per gallon in the city and 33 miles per gallon on the highway. The Ascent offers a 2.4-lier turbocharged four-cylinder option with 260-horsepower with up to 21 miles per gallon in the city and 27 miles per gallon on the highway. Both feature options like paddle shifters as well depending on the setup to give you a dynamic drive wherever you go, as well.

Safety and Technology

A standard bearer for safety, the Subaru lineup always ensures you're going to find quality features onboard aimed at protecting you and giving you a safer driving experience. With both vehicles, you're going to find standard Subaru EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology across the board, which has features like pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane keep assist to give it some of the highest safety ratings out there. You'll also be able to find features on both the 2019 Ascent and Forester which includes rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot detection, reverse automatic braking, LED steering-responsive headlights, and a new system called Subaru DriverFocus® available, which can keep you focused on the road by placing important information in sight so you can have the info you need, while continuing to drive.

When it comes to onboard technology, Subaru STARLINK® is a standard feature to give you the likes of Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ connectivity to call, text, use navigation and stream music on the go all with your smartphone's features and setup on the touch display.
