1. San Marcos Golf Course

When it was constructed in 1913, the San Marcos Golf Course at the Crowne Plaza Phoenix Chandler Golf Resort was the first in the state to feature fairways with grass instead of sand. The 18-hole course underwent a 2014 renovation that installed an irrigation system that makes year-round playing possible. The clubhouse at San Marcos includes a golf shop and a restaurant.

Located at 100 N. Dakota St. in Chandler, San Marcos can be reached in less than 30 minutes depending on which part of the city you’re coming from.

2. Troon North Golf Club

Fort McDowell’s We-Ko-Pa Golf Club also offers two courses, each of which features the Sonoran Desert landscape. The Saguaro course is built for walking and offers playing corridors that are wider than most desert designs. The Cholla course offers sweeping views of the river valleys and mountains. Located at 18200 E. WeKoPa Way in Fort McDowell, We-Ko-Pa has a golf shop, a restaurant, and a practice facility.

4. The Boulders Golf Club

The Boulders Golf Club has north and south courses, each of which has 18 holes. Both courses were designed by Jay Morrish and showcase the desert landscape. The courses offer pro shops, certified instructors, and cart and equipment rentals.

The Boulders is located at 34631 N. Tom Darlington Drive in Carefree and is less than an hour’s drive from Chandler.

5. Ocotillo Golf Club

The Ocotillo Golf Club offers three nine-hole courses that were designed by Ted Robinson. The courses feature waterfalls, lakes, and lush fairways, marking a departure from more traditional desert layouts. A practice facility and lessons are available. Located in Chandler at 3715 S. Clubhouse Drive, Ocotillo is less than a 30-minute drive from Chandler.
